William Fontleroy

William Fontleroy (* 20). October 1978) is a former American basketball player.

Career
The 1.91-meter-tall builder, from Gary, Indiana, was a member of the college team at Southwest Missouri State University until 2000 (later renamed Missouri State University). Fontleroy was known for his jumping power, which he used, among other things, for powerful basket closures. With 1133 points, he took 16th place in the eternal basket hunter list of the university when he left it in 2000. His 471 submissions were the second best in the history of the team.

He began his career as a professional basketball player in the 2000/01 season at BSG SFL/OSC Bremerhaven in the 2nd Bundesliga Nord in Germany. In Bremerhaven he became the favourite of the followers. In his second year in Bremerhaven, the US-American achieved outstanding values, when he scored 25.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and averaged 4.2 basket succession of his fellow players per game. In the 2002/03 season he played for Aix-Maurienne in the second division of France and came to 14.4 points per encounter, but had to suspend due to an eye injury for a longer time.

Fontleroy was in the match year 2003/04 with the Austrian Bundesliga team Arkadia Traiskirchen under contract and brought it to 16 points and 5.3 basket templates per encounter. During the summer break in 2004 he returned to Bremerhaven, the team had meanwhile been renamed polar bears. Under coach Sarunas Sakalauskas Fontleroy succeeded with Bremerhaven in the season 2004/05 the Bundesliga promotion.

At the end of September 2005, the French first division team Cholet Basket took the American under contract. It remained a short guest appearance in Cholet, Fontleroy was used in three league games and scored 3.3 points per encounter. He then moved to InterCollege Etha Engomis in Cyprus. This became the last stop of his career as a professional basketball player.

In his home country, Fontleroy worked as a basketball youth coach. His daughter Ysabella became a talented basketball player. In 2019, he was accepted into the sports hall of Missouri State University for his achievements as a player.
