WISHES (Web-based Information Service for Higher Education Students)

Overview

WISHES is a European project implemented by nine institutions to promote work offers and studies for students around the world through its portal. The platform centralizes information on European educational institutions and potential employers of students, based on the needs formulated by more than 4,000 students, in accordance with the Bologna Process and the Lisbon Treaty.

History

The idea of creating a web portal to centralize and present interesting information about stays at Erasmus universities in Europe was conceived during an Erasmus semester at the University of Tomas Bata in Zlin, Czech Republic by Michael Steinmann and Ricardo Dores. This initiative led to the development of WISHES as a user-friendly online information platform.

Objectives

WISHES aims to provide services to three main target groups:

* Students from all over the world interested in studying or working abroad
* Universities and colleges (Higher Education Institutions, HEIs)
* Companies seeking to employ students with specific skills and qualifications

Structure and Network

The WISHES project is supported by a strong network consisting of more than 100 higher education institutions, European associations, national agencies, rector conferences, and the European Commission. This diverse network enables the platform to gather information on European higher education institutions and employment agencies, creating profiles adapted to the parameters of the Bologna Process and the Treaty of Lisbon.

Functionality

The WISHES web portal offers a centralized platform for students to access information on:

* European educational institutions
* Potential employers of students
* Study and work opportunities abroad

By addressing the needs of over 4,000 students, WISHES provides a valuable resource for those seeking education and employment opportunities in Europe.
