The MET Committee on Women and Sport has, inter alia, responsibility for promoting gender equality in sport. Recognising the need to collect data on the position of women in Cypriot racing, at multiple levels, the Commission conducted 2 investigations on a Pancyprian basis, and proceeded to compare the results.
In 2011, the Commission conducted through the European University of Cyprus the Cyprus research on Women and Sports in Cyprus. The aim of this research, as already mentioned above, was to determine the participation of women in the sports events of the place – both at a competitive level and for recreational purposes.
An important reason for the investigation was also the prospect of comparing its results with the corresponding results of surveys by other European countries and the general determination of the level at which women participate in sport at European level.
Part II of the research concerned women's participation in Sports at multiple levels, including decision-making centres (Executive Councils, Directors, Sub-Commissions, etc.), paid staff of sports federations, clubs, etc., and high-level sports.
In 2014, the MET Committee ‘Women and Sports’ collected similar data as the sports federations mentioned above. Its aim was to compare these data with those of 2011.
