World Cup of Football Sub- 20 of 1999

The 1999 Sub- 20 World Cup was the twelfth edition of the world youth championship organized by FIFA and was played between April 3 and 24 in Nigeria. After three editions where South America had achieved supremacy, it achieved its first youth title by defeating a surprising one. On the other hand, an even more surprising defeat in the definition by the third place.

In addition to the host, 23 teams classified the final stage of the tournament through the tournaments performed by each of the remaining six confederations.

A team from Oceania ranked in the 1998 OFC Sub-20 Championship in Samoa.
Four teams from Central and North America classified at the 1998 Concacaf Sub- 20 Tournament. which was held in two groups, the first in Guatemala and the second in Trinidad and Tobago.
Four Asian teams qualified at the 1998 AFC Youth Championship in Thailand.
Four African teams qualified at the 1999 African Youth Championship in Ghana.
Four South American teams qualified for the 1999 South American Championship Sub- 20 in Argentina.
Six European representatives qualified in the European Championship Sub- 18 1998 in Cyprus.
