World War (War of the Worlds) is a 2005 film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp. Interpreters include Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin, Miranda Otto and Tim Robbins.

Produced and distributed by Paramount and DreamWorks, it is based on the 1897 novel by H. G. Wells. He was filmed in 72 days in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. During the realization, all information was ensured maximum confidentiality in order to limit the leakage of details before it was launched on the big screen. He summed up $603 million as the fourth most profitable film of the year; well received by critics, in 2006 he was nominated for three Oscar awards.

Trama
Ray Ferrier is a port worker living in a small village in New Jersey; divorced by his wife Mary Ann, he receives his sons Rachel and Robbie in custody for the weekend, which the woman will spend in Boston with her new boyfriend Tim and her parents. On the same day, a wall cloud is formed in the sky that casts on the ground of the powerful lightning, deactivating all electronic and electromechanical devices of the area, including watches and cars.

Ray goes to the city center to figure out what's going on and suddenly the ground begins to tremble. Big cracks are formed and from the underground a giant triple alien machine emerges that with a laser beam inceners anyone and anything you encounter on your path. The man manages to escape the disaster and, back home unharmed and upset, decides to escape with his children, stealing a newly repaired car on which he loaded supplies and carrying his gun. He reaches the home of the ex-wife but there is no one and telephone networks are out of use. He chooses to spend the night in the cellar, during which there are numerous explosions. In the morning he finds the remains of a Boeing 747 crashed near the house; a reporter informs him that other tripods have escaped from underground, besieging other inhabited centers and shows him a video where one sees a capsule descend into the ground, assuming that inside it are found the pilots of the alien machines and that these have been buried millennia before waiting for a planned alien invasion.

Ray and his children rush to Boston, but, on the way, they come across a desperate crowd who hires them to take over their car. So they find themselves forced to abandon it and continue on foot, they reach a marina on the Hudson River. The ferry on which they would have to climb to the other side is attacked by some tripods, creating panic among the people who pour on the boat. It is overturned and the aliens, with their mechanical tentacles, repeat from the river and make the passengers prisoners.
