Mehmet Kemal Yamak

Mehmet Kemal Yamak (3 April 1924 – 26 July 2009) was a Turkish general who held various high-ranking positions throughout his military career.

Early Life and Education

Yamak graduated from Bursa Lights Military High School in 1943, followed by the Kara Harp School in 1945, and then the Topçu Classroom School in 1947. He completed his training as a staff officer at the Army Academy (Kara Harp Akademisi) in 1958.

Military Career

In 1971, Yamak was promoted to the rank of Tuğgeneral (Brigadier General). He served as the commander of the Special Harp Department and the 4th Armored Tugay. In 1975, he was promoted to the rank of Orgeneral (Lieutenant General) and became the commander of the Piyade (Infantry) forces and the Eastern Domestic Regional Command.

In 1979, Yamak was promoted to the rank of Korgeneral (General). He served as the commander of the Turkish Peace Force Command and the 7th Armored Division. Between 1981 and 1984, he held the position of Commander in Diyarbakir. In 1984, he was promoted to the rank of Orgeneral again and became the president of the Kara Force Kurmay Presidency and the commander of the Aegean Army.

In 1987, Yamak was appointed as a member of the Prime Ministerial Delegation for the task of convergence. He also served as the commander-in-chief of the Turkish army (Turk Kara Kuvvetleri) from 1987 to 1989.
