Yandex Maps and Related Services

Yandex Maps is a Russian web mapping service developed by Yandex, providing detailed maps to the world. The service was opened in 2004 and has since become one of the most widely used mapping services globally.

As of May 2017, the Russian audience of Yandex Maps reached 24.9 million users, indicating its widespread adoption and popularity among locals and tourists alike. The service offers a range of features, including search on maps, information about traffic jams, tracking urban transport, laying routes, and panoramas of streets in large cities.

Yandex Maps is available in four versions: diagrams, satellite images, satellite images with inscriptions and symbols (hybrid), and the People's Map. The set of opportunities for working with maps is extensive but limited to a select few cities. Users can illuminate areas, cities, or regions by searching organizations on the site, allowing them to view streets on maps.

Search functionality allows users to find geographical objects such as addresses, streets, cities, regions, and countries, as well as search for specific organizations. The service also enables measuring distance, paving routes, and viewing street panoramas. For a number of cities, Yandex's Congestion Service is available, providing an indicator of traffic congestion on a ten-point digital scale with four-color graphics.

This information is collected from traffic cameras and can be taken into account when automatically laying routes. The route is laid even if the point of departure and end point are in different countries. Users can also view images in real-time from webcams installed along highways and near interchanges.

In 2016, Yandex collaborated with Toyota on a joint project called "Everest Panoramas," which presented a multimedia report on the ascent of Jomolungma (Everest) featuring panoramic photos, soundtrack, and interactive three-dimensional graphics. The project utilized browser technology for displaying WebGL 3D graphics implemented by the Blend4Web engine.

Yandex.Cards

Yandex.Cards is another service offered by Yandex, providing detailed maps to countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
