Early Life and Family

Yaroslav Vladimirovich Rybakov was born on November 22, 1980, in Mahiljou, Belarusian SSR. He comes from a family with a long sports tradition. His grandmother was a high jumper, his grandfather was a multi-sport athlete, and both of his parents were involved in light athletics and later became coaches.

Athletic Career

Rybakov began training under the guidance of his father, Vladimir, initially focusing on obstacles. However, as he grew older, he found that he excelled more in high jump. He started competing at a young age, finishing fifth with a height of 2.18 m at the 1998 Junior World Championships in Annecy.

Senior Career

Rybakov's breakthrough came in 2001 when he won the silver medal at the World Championships in Edmonton by beating Martin Buß of Germany. The following year, he took revenge against Buss and won the gold medal at the European Championships 2002 in Munich.

He continued to compete at a high level, achieving his personal best height of 2.38 meters in Stockholm in 2005. Rybakov's greatest sporting success came at the 2009 Berlin World Cup where he won the gold medal in high jump with a mark of 2.32 meters, ahead of Kyriakos Ioannou of Cyprus and Sylwester Bednarek of Poland.
