### Conflict between King and Pope
* March 23: Pope John XXII banned King Ludwig IV of Bavaria.
* May 22: The Pope's interference in political affairs was rejected by Louis IV through the Sachsenhausen appellation.
* June 11: John XXII declared Louis IV deposed and stripped of all dignity.
* June 24: Marsilius of Padua published Defensor pacis (dedicated to Louis IV), which developed an anti-clerical theory of the state based on the doctrine of popular sovereignty.
### The War of the Four Lords
* Between Henri de la Tour-du-Pin, Bishop of Metz and Duke Frederick IV of Lorraine, a military conflict occurred in Lorraine for unknown reasons.
* In May, Frederick sent a plenipotentiary to Pope John XXII to complain about the bishop's behavior. The Pope called for both sides to peace and redress the damage done on June 13.
* August 25: A coalition of John of Luxembourg, his uncle Balduin of Luxembourg (Archbishop of Trier), Count Edward I of Bar, and Duke Frederick IV of Lorraine was formed.

* Date unknown: II. Manuil Megas Komnenos, Emperor of the Trabzon Empire, possibly the legitimate child of III. Andronikos (died 1333).

* July 16: Go-Uda, the 91st emperor according to Japan's traditional reckoning (died 1267).
