### January
* **January 2**: Panamanian President Colonel Jose Antonio Remon was assassinated during horse racing at the capital's racetrack.
* **January 3**: The royal government of Iraq announced a "break" in diplomatic relations with the USSR.

* **January 13**:

**International relations**
