### January

* **1 January**: Colonel Jean-Bédel Bokassa defeats President David Dacko in the Central African Republic, suspending the Constitution and civil rights. This marked a significant event in the country's history.

* **3 January**:
+ The First Tricontinental Conference was held in Havana, Cuba, with over 500 delegates attending.
