Around 926 BC: Year 5 of the reign of Roboam, Pharaoh Chechonq intervenes in Palestine. He walks on Gaza, Gezer, Rubute, Ayyalon, Qiryatayim, Beth-horon, Gabaon... According to the Bible, King Rehoboam of Judah subdues himself and pays a heavy price from the treasures of the temple and royal palace. The Egyptians then turned north, destroyed Shechem, crossed the Jordan at the ford of Damayeh and reached Penuel where Jeroboam had taken refuge. They go up the Jordan to Beit Shean and return through the valley of Jezreel, Megiddo where they erect a stele and the plain of Sharon, while a detachment destroys the strongholds of the Negev. According to the Bible, Roboam then took advantage of Israel's weakening to attack him, a war that continued after his death. Jeroboam, based in Tirzah, resists Roboam's attempts to win.
