Political Career

Gavriel is a member of the AKEL (Confederation of Workers' and Peasants' Parties) party. He has been a member of the Association of Scientific Engineers since 1990 and the Scientific Technical Chamber of Cyprus since 1990. In 2008, he was appointed as a deputy to Costas Papacostas, who became Minister of Defence in the government led by Demetris Christofias.

Gavriel served as secretary of the Single Democratic Youth Organisation (EDON) Deryneia from 1989 to 1993. He also participated in the 2006 parliamentary elections with AKEL but was not elected. However, he became a member of parliament after Costas Papacostas' appointment as Minister of Defence.

As an MP, Gavriel served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Industry. He claimed re-election in the 2016 parliamentary election but was not elected. However, due to the resignation of another AKEL MP, he took his place in parliament on October 23, 2020.
