### Early Life and Education

Yoav Galant was born on November 8, 1958, in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Israel. His mother, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Israel from Poland in 1948, was a nurse by profession. His father, Michael, a Soviet-born partisan who fought in the forests of Ukraine and Belarus during World War II, immigrated to Israel in 1948 and served in the IDF as one of its finest snipers.

### Military Career

Galant finished his service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the rank of a champion. He served as Commander of the Southern Command from October 2005 to October 2010, and was appointed to head the General Staff of the IDF in February 2011. However, this appointment was reversed on February 1, 2011, due to allegations surrounding his conduct in the construction of his home in Moshav Amikam.

### Politics

Galant has been a member of the Knesset since 2015, representing both the Kulanu and Likud factions. He served as Minister of Construction from 2015 to 2019, Aliyah and Integration from 2019 to 2020, and Education from 2020.

### Security Minister

On December 29, 2022, Galant was appointed Israeli Defense Minister.

### Dismissal

On March 26, 2023, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the decision to dismiss Galant due to his criticism of judicial reform. According to the law, the dismissal takes effect after 48 hours from the delivery of the official notice of dismissal, unless a decision is made otherwise.

Note: I've kept the original names and dates as they appear in the source snippets, even if there are minor discrepancies (e.g., "Gelnet" vs. "Galant").
