Yordan Yordanov: A Bulgarian Football Legend

Yordan Dimitrov Yordanov, affectionately known as "Pikata," is a renowned Bulgarian former footballer and manager who left an indelible mark on the sport. Born on September 28, 1951, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Yordanov's illustrious career spanned over two decades, with his most notable achievements coming during his time playing for Levski (Sofia) and representing the Bulgarian national team.

Yordanov began his football journey at a young age, eventually joining Levski (Sofia), where he would go on to become an integral part of the team's success. Under his leadership, Levski claimed two Bulgarian championships in 1977 and 1979, as well as three Soviet Army Cup titles in 1976, 1977, and 1979. His impressive performances earned him a spot on the national team, where he made six appearances between 1975 and 1980.

One of Yordanov's most memorable moments came during a UEFA Euro 1976 qualifying match against Malta, where he scored the second goal in Bulgaria's 2-0 away win. He also had the distinction of scoring two goals for Levski in their historic 5-4 victory over FC Barcelona in Sofia in 1976.

Yordanov's career statistics are a testament to his dedication and skill on the field. With 24 matches played for Levski in European tournaments, including five appearances with KESH, CNC, and UEFA Cup, he demonstrated his versatility as a player. His international debut came in 1975, followed by six more appearances between 1976 and 1980.

After retiring from football, Yordanov went on to pursue coaching opportunities, eventually completing his racing work in Cyprus. Today, he remains an iconic figure in Bulgarian football history, celebrated for his achievements with Levski (Sofia) and the national team.
