Yangos Scarantiris
Yangos Scarantiris (5 February 1940 – 9 March 2007) was an Israeli-born Greek international footballer.
Early Life and Career
Scarantiris was born in Haifa, Israel on 5 February 1940. He began his youth career at the age of 14 with Tel Aviv's youth team before moving to Haifa, where he played for Hapoel Haifa's youth team. In 1956, he won the National Youth Championship with Coach David Shoemaker.
Professional Career
Scarantiris made his professional debut in the 1956/57 season, playing as a right defender for Maccabi Haifa. He was part of the team that won several matches, including one against Maccabi Tel Aviv. In 1958, under the guidance of Coach Zlako Chiikovsky, Scarantiris became more aggressive and showed his ability in scoring goals.
In 1960, Scarantiris immigrated to Greece with his family and joined Olympiacos, where he played for about five years. During this period, he participated in 87 games of the First Division, including one game finished with a penalty but also one self-goal. Initially, he played as a left defender, but later switched to right extreme defender.
In 1965, Scarantiris joined OFI and played in the Second National Championship for four years. In 1969, he transferred to AE Larissa, where he met significant success, including a promotion to the First National in 1972-73. During his time at AE Larissa, Scarantiris recorded a total of 157 entries, with 13 in the First National and two goals scored with penalty executions.
