Youri Tielemans (born July 1, 1980 in Leeuw-Saint-Pierre, Belgium) is a Belgian international footballer who plays as a midfielder in Aston Villa.
Biography
Children and training
Youri Tielemans was born in Leeuw-Saint-Pierre to a Brussels father and a mother of Congolese origin. He signed his first professional contract with Anderlecht Sporting.
Club career
RSC Anderlecht (2013-2017)
On , Tielemans made his first appearance for the Sporting, on the occasion of a championship match against Lokeren. The next, he became the third youngest player and the youngest Belgian to play a Champions League match in the match between his club and the Olympiakos. For his first professional season, he took part in thirty-five matches before being crowned Belgian champion with the Anderlecht club.
Quickly became an indisputable club member, he played fifty-two matches the following season in all competitions, including the 2014 Belgian Supercut won against KSC Lokeren.
During the 2015-2016 season, the club finished vice-champion in Belgium behind FC Bruges. He began to make his name throughout the country thanks to his precise passes and his quality of strike. On the first day of the championship, he scored a superb midfielder goal at the last minute against Waasland-Beveren.
During the 2016-2017 season, Youri Tielemans became the best midfielder of the Belgian Championship and was champion of Belgium with the RSC Anderlecht. He also took part in the European Mauves race in the Europa League where Anderlecht was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Manchester United. During a match against Ostend, he climbed the field at the time of play and scored a double in five minutes. He gets used to scoring goals on big hits. He was very important to his team and scored against Genk, Charleroi, Mouscron, Eupen, Westerlo and twice against Saint-Trond and Zulte Waregem. He is elected professional footballer of the year by his peers.
AS Monaco (2017-2019)
On 24 May 2017, he signed for five years at AS Monaco for 25 million euros. He scored his first goal in the Monegasque colours in the Champions League against the RB Leipzig on , allowing his team to equalize (1-1 final score). On , he scored his first goal in Ligue 1 against Olympique de Marseille. The ASM bows three goals to two that day.
The beginning of the 2018-2019 season of AS Monaco is catastrophic. Leonardo Jardim and his team find themselves very quickly in the bottom of the Ligue 1 table. The defeats followed and the situation did not improve. Leonardo Jardim seems to no longer rely on Youri Tielemans and makes him play less and less.
