Lieutenant-Colonel Yvon Lafrance CD, born Daniel Yvon Lafrance in Iberville and died in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, was a militaryman, businessman and politician from Quebec, Member of Parliament for Iberville in the Quebec National Assembly under the banner of the Liberal Party of Quebec's general election from 1989 to February 1994, from which he sat as an independent until the , where he joined the Action démocratique du Québec by Mario Dumont, becoming the first member of the National Assembly to be part of the ADQ. He did not stand for election in September 1994.
Biography
Youth and military career
Yvon Lafrance was born in Iberville, the daily worker Conrad Lafrance and Françoise Daigle. Lafrance finished her secondary at the Académie Saint-Georges in Iberville, operated by the Marist Brothers. He enlisted in the Armed Forces on . He studied at the Royal Military College in Saint John and then at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston. After his five years of military training, he received his officer's certificate in 1968. During his youth, he played on the local ice hockey team, the Iberville Foxes, as well as the clubs of the Collège militaire de Saint-Jean, as well as the Collège de Kingston. He completed post-secondary studies at the (CCEMAC) in Kingston.
He was assigned to the Royal Regiment battalion at Valcartier base as platoon commander. In 1969, he was transferred to the battalion. Together with the battalion, he was sent as a member of the United Nations peacekeeping forces to Cyprus as part of the framework. After six months, he returned to Valcartier. In 1970, he was sent to France for a two-year exchange. He served with the infantry regiment, the mechanized fighter group and the 152nd infantry regiment. He studied at the École supérieure des officers de réservatoires spécialisés d'établissement-major (ESORSEM) in Paris. In 1972, he returned to Canada and was reassigned to RR battalion. In 1975, he participated in his second United Nations mission to Cyprus. In 1976, he completed an internship at the (CFC) in Toronto. In 1977 he was transferred to the Federal Republic of Germany, where he joined the RR battalion at Lahr. It also serves in Norway. The following year he was attached to the Canadian Embassy in Paris. In the summer of 1980 he returned and was appointed deputy battalion commander, then commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel (Colonel) Yvon Sarrazin. In 1982 he was promoted lieutenant-colonel. As a result, he was appointed Vice-Commander and Director of Officer Cadets of the Royal Military College of Saint John and completed a two-year military internship. In 1984 he was appointed commander of the Royal Regiment battalion, based at the Citadelle de Québec, succeeding Mr. E. Poirier. He held the position for two years and was replaced by Lieutenant-Colonel (Lieutenant-General) Christian Couture (1949-2006).
