Zaoksky District
Zaoksky District is an administrative district (raion), one of the twenty-three in Tula Oblast, Russia. It's a districts (raions) that are located in and around the city of Zaoksky.
The administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Zaoksky, while the township (a working settlement) serves as the city centre. The township itself is also referred to as a village. Located within Tula Oblast, Zaoksky District shares borders with Alexinsky in the south, Yasnogorsky districts in the east and north-east, Serpukhov urban district of the Moscow region in the north, and Tarussky district of the Kaluga region in the west.
The district's geography is characterized by its water resources, which include several rivers such as Oka, Vashana, Vypreika, Sknig, Besputa, Soen, Gorodenka, Pishna, Solominka, Skrychka, and Yamnitsa. The soils in the area are primarily gray forest and sod-podzolic, with forests occupying 6.84% of the district's total area.
Zaoksky District has a rich history dating back to the XIV-XVIII centuries. Initially part of the Alexinsky district, which became part of the Grand Duchy of Moscow in the XIV century, the region was affected by Tatar raids. The raid of 1472 destroyed the district center Alexin, while Khan Akhmat's campaign in 1480 led to a significant defeat and limited settlement beyond the Oka River. It wasn't until the late XV-XVI centuries that the area began to see population growth.
Historical records indicate that information about the emergence of the parish, which included D. Ivanovka and St. Ivanovo (then Tarusskaya), dates back to the end of the XVII century. Church historian P. I. Malitsky has noted inaccuracies in determining the time of creation of the parish of Unka village, as well as its origin.
