Early Life and Education

Ze'ev Schiff was born on July 1, 1932, in Lille, France. He moved to Mandatory Palestine with his family in 1935, where he would eventually grow up and begin his career as a journalist.

Schiff studied Middle Eastern affairs and military history at Tel Aviv University, developing the extensive knowledge that would serve him well in his future endeavors.

Career

Schiff began working for the daily Haaretz in 1955, initially as an intelligence officer in the Israeli army. He was appointed as their military correspondent in 1960, a position he held until his death in 2007, spanning over 50 years.

As a military correspondent, Schiff covered numerous conflicts and events, including:

* The Six-Day War
* The Yom Kippur War
* The Lebanon War
* The Intifada

He also served as a correspondent in various international locations, such as:
* Vietnam
* The former Soviet Union
* Cyprus
* Ethiopia
