Zeaborn Ship Management is a third-party ship manager based in Hamburg and Singapore. The company was founded in 2018 and emerged from the merger of E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers Shipmanagement. The company belongs to the Zech Group, which is owned by construction contractor Kurt Zech.
History
Zeaborn was founded in April 2013 with the aim of operating a fleet of 90-100 heavy-lift ships. In April 2014, the shipping company ordered ten heavy-lift freighters from the Chinese shipyard Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering. Later, however, the order was cancelled again. In July 2015, Zeaborn took a 50% stake in the freighting company EMS Conbulk in Leer.
In May 2016, the majority took over the HC Chartering in Ahrensburg, which was founded in 2011 and had 14 heavy-lift ships in management. Due to the cooperation with Carisbroke Shipping in the United Kingdom, another 16 heavy-lift ships came under Zeaborn management.
In March 2017, the Rickmers-Line was acquired. This increased the Zeaborn fleet to around 50 ships with a capacity of 7,500 – 30,000 tdw. In September 2017, the Zeaborn Group and a consortium took over the ship management division of the insolvent Rickmers Holding from Bertram Rickmers. Bertram Rickmers became a minority shareholder. At the beginning of February 2018, there was retroactive effect on 1 January 2018. January the takeover of E.R. Schiffahrt and the brokerage company Harper Petersen from Erck Rickmers. This increased the fleet of managed ships to around 165. The merger of E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers Ship Management resulted in Zeaborn Ship Management.
In May 2018, Zeaborn founded the joint venture Zeamarine with the US shipping company Intermarine, which is part of Maritime Holdings (Delaware), to load the combined fleet of about 75 ships at that time, in which Zeaborn holds 75% and the previous Intermarine owners New Mountain Capital 25%. In April 2019, Zeaborn acquired the shares of New Mountain Capital.
Since 2018, Zeaborn Ship Management has been a pure third-party ship manager and manages over 100 container ships, bulkers, MPP and tankers.
In 2019, Zeaborn took over Claus-Peter Offen Tankschiffreidererei (CPO Tankers), which is part of the Offen Group. In early November 2019, the company was renamed Zeaborn Ship Management Tanker (Zeaborn Tankers).
In May 2020, Zeamarine filed for bankruptcy and again separated from the US carrier Intermarine.
Zeaborn Ship Management
Zeaborn Ship Management employs around 300 people on land and around 3,500 at sea. The company is represented worldwide with locations in Asia and Europe. The headquarters are in Hamburg, Germany, and a second headquarters is in Singapore. The crew management is managed in Hamburg, Limassol (Cyprus) and Manila.
