Zeferino

Zeferino Paulo Borges Soares

Zeferino Paulo Borges Soares (born 27 August 1978), known simply as Zeferino, is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a striker.

Football Career

Born in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Zeferino was bought by Real Madrid from F.C. Porto at the age of 17. However, he never played for the first team and instead appeared for three seasons with the reserve side Real Madrid Castilla. During this time, he also served two second division loans in Spain.

In January 2001, Zeferino was released by Real Madrid and joined F.C. Alverca, where he experienced his most steady period, playing three consecutive top-level seasons. Prior to the start of the 2005–06 season, he had a trial with Major League Soccer's D.C. United, but nothing came of it. He then went on to represent Umm-Salal Sports Club (twice), CD Logroñés, Çetinkaya Türk S.K., and Hibernians FC.
