Zlata Ognevich
Biography
Zlata Leonidivna Ognevich (born Inna Leonidivna Bordyuh; January 12, 1986) is a Ukrainian singer and former member of the Supreme Rada (Ukrainian Parliament).
Ognevich was born in Murmansk, in the north of the then Russian Soviet Socialist Republic. However, she grew up in the city of Sudak, Crimea, where her father, a military surgeon who served on a Soviet submarine, was transferred to in 1991. Before that, she had lived in "many cities and countries."
Music Career
Ognevich graduated from the Rheingold M. Glière School of Music in Kiev and is a soloist of the Songs and Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
She has already tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest twice before representing Ukraine at the 2013 contest in Malmö with her song "Gravity." In 2010, she attempted to represent Ukraine with the song "Tiny Island," which finished fifth. She also participated in the Ukrainian national selection for the 2011 contest.
Personal Life and Origins
Ognevich has Serbian origins on her father's side, as her father's surname is a common one among Serbs. Her name, Zlata Ognevich, was chosen to reflect her heritage; "zlato" means "gold" in Serbian. On the other hand, she has Ukrainian roots through her mother.
Politics
In 2014, Ognevich was elected as a member of parliament (MP) during the Ukrainian legislative elections under the label of the Oleh Liachko Radical Party.
Note: I corrected some minor errors and inconsistencies between the two sources, such as "Rheingold M. Glière School of Music" instead of "R. Glier Music Institute", and "Songs and Dance Ensemble" instead of "Songs and Dance Set".
