Özkan Yorgancıoğlu
Özkan Yorgancıoğlu (born 1 August 1954) is a Turkish Cypriot politician who has served as Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and leader of the Republican Turkish Party.
Early Life and Education
Yorgancıoğlu was born in Lempa, a village in Paphos, Cyprus. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at İstanbul University in 1980, completing the Financial and Political Science Cursus.
Career
Before entering politics, Yorgancıoğlu worked for the Turkish Oils of Cyprus with Seraciler Cooperative, served as the general publication director of the New Layout newspaper, and established his own dairy products facility. He was a member of the Republican Turkish Party in 1974 and later held the position of Minister of Youth and Sport from January 2004 to September 2006.
In the 2013 general elections, Yorgancıoğlu's party won, and he became the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on 2 September 2013. He maintained this position until 16 July 2015.
Leadership
Yorgancıoğlu has been the leader of the Republican Turkish Party since June 5, 2011. Under his leadership, the party won the 2013 general elections and formed a government in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
