Ş, called S cedille, is a graphem used in the writing of several Turkish languages, in Maronite Cypriot Arabic, in laze, in mancagne, in Kurdish, in Zazaki and in the transliteration of the Arabic alphabet. It is also sometimes used in Turkish publications in Judeo-Spanish or Romanian as a substitute for the subscribed comma S. This is the letter S diacrited with a cedilla.

It is mainly used to represent the deaf post-alveolar silver consonant //.

Use

Judeo-Spanish
In Turkey, Ş is used for sound // in some publications in Judeo-Spanish.

Turkish languages
It represents the sound // in Turkish, Azeri, Crimean Tatar, Tatar or Turkmen.
It is also used in gagauz.

Romanian
In Romanian, Ş has been used, or is still sometimes used, as a substitute for the '(S comma subscribed) which is not always available.

Transliteration of the Arabic alphabet
The Ş is used in the transliteration of the Arabic alphabet of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (GENUNG) for the Arabic letter
